TURBULENCE

Years ago when I was with FIDO-1 out of LAX we were schedule to flight check the glide path at Palmdale. That was where the L-1011 and DC-10 were being tested. There were two pilot in the pattern. A 1011 & DC-10, Our command pilot that day was an ex Navy NP. He was in somewhat of a hurry. He contacted the tower and told them why we were there. The tower informed him of the two heavies and recommended that he waited for a 5 miles separation between the DC-10 and us. He told the tower he was going to get in between the 1011 and DC-10. The tower advised against it. Well he did it anyway. That put us about 2.5 miles behind the 1011. All of a sudden it was like the Jolly Green Giant pounding on both our wings. After making a couples of high degree rolls left and right the pilot finally got us out of the wake. Good thing we were in a DC-3. I don't believe any other plane at that time could have taken the pounding. In addition when we got on the ground you could say I was pissed. I grab the pilot and thru him up against the plane and loudly told him That if that happened again I would kill him and if I survived I would piss on his grave. Guess I had a bad attitude day.
