I.G. INSPECTION

A small story about a special inspection. Took place in NBC.

Most of us MATCU folks had several large lockers or our gear, 1 for the USMC stuff and 1 or 2 for the civil activities. Since I was a part time Marine, worked only the midnight shift, (well 9pm to 7 am shift), and a full time grocery clerk, (9am to 9 pm),who kept the married guys from starving and brought food home every night to feed these folks, got roped into this inspection.

Well anyway the IG and his group came thru the barracks opening all the lockers. Well a long story short, this bright shinning 1lt opened my 3 lockers, closed them, walked away, came back and reopened them again, walked away again, walked back and opened the 2 civil lockers.

Then he states who owns these 2 lockers? Of course, I am standing next to them. He states are these suits yours, of course the answer is in the affirmative. He closes the lockers again, walks away for the 4th time, then walks back again and ask how can you afford these suits on a sergeants pay when he as a 1LT could not afford same.

After I said I buy them with my full time salary you could hear the snickers all over the squad bay. Actually I think I said something along the line as ...sorry about that sir but I buy them with funds not supplied by the USMC. And, you could hear the snickers all over the squad bay.

He walked out of there talking to him self and calling another 1lt and saying did you see the civilian attire that sargent had?

Bottom line, don't sweat the IG, somebody will screw it up for you no matter how hard you try.
